One of the finest films made in recent years. It's a poignant story about hope. Hope gets me. That's what makes a film like this more than a movie. It tells a lesson about life. Those are the films people talk about 50 or even 100 years from you. It's also a story for freedom. Freedom from isolation, from rule, from bigotry* and hate. Freeman and Robbins are majestic in their performances. Each learns from the other. Their relationship is strong and you feel that from the first moment they make contact with one another. There is also a wonderful performance from legend James Whitmore as Brooks. (TIM COX)
I personally recommend you to watch this movie. Its really good and is ranked #23 in American Film Institute's 100 Most Inspiring Movies of All Time. This movie captures the essence of the human spirit as it portrays how time is of little or no importance to the convicts. It makes you sit back, relax and marvel in wonder at how people these days try so hard to fight against time. Working extra hours, pulling extra shifts just to earn some extra money. In the movie, Andy pulls off a surprise just for some fun for the convicts and earns himself 2 weeks in the hole**. Ultimately while watching this movie, keep your minds open and think about life inside and life outside prison. Maybe one of the reasons why I like this movie so much is because it has some personal meaning to me. =) Oh and I think one thing Tim Cox forgot to add was the value of friendship that can be seen in this movie. Haha.
